Director [Chair], School of Occupational Therapy

Texas Woman's University (TWU) is seeking a visionary individual with a collaborative leadership style to lead a large occupational therapy program with campuses in Denton, Dallas, and Houston. The School of Occupational Therapy is a nationally , accredited program in the College of Health Sciences. TWU has a long history of offering exceptional occupational therapy entry-level and advanced degrees and currently awards entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) and Ph.D. in Occupational Therapy degrees. The school is seeking a Director who will (1) foster a climate of intellectual vitality and excellence; (2) excel in team building and interprofessional education; (3) support faculty in their teaching, scholarship, and service; and (4) effectively represent the School of Occupational Therapy locally, nationally, and internationally. The Director is the primary administrator for the School, reporting to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and supported by Associate Directors on each campus. This 12-month position is housed on the Denton campus with expectations of travel to all three campuses. TWU is a publicly funded co-educational institution and holds a Carnegie Foundation classification of a Doctoral/Professional University.

A new health sciences building is under construction on the Denton campus, and it is expected to be completed by the start of the 2025-2026 academic year. The building is designed to facilitate interprofessional education opportunities with nursing, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, counseling, and other health science programs. The building will house an active rehabilitation clinic and primary care clinic, as well as simulation labs and maker spaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of
    • Visionary development of curriculum or programs
    • Working collaboratively with diverse faculty and staff
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Team building and maintaining a collegial environment
  • Experience in interprofessional education
  • A distinguished and ongoing record of scholarly activities including external grants and track record of publications
  • History of faculty and Ph.D. student mentorship
  • Documented administrative skills including:
    • Budget management
    • Maintenance of accreditation
    • Effective management of School, College, and University policies and procedures
    • Developing and maintaining alumni connections

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy including clinical practice, administrative experiences, teaching, and scholarship
  • 3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the post baccalaureate level
  • An earned research doctorate and the ability to be tenured at the Associate or Full Professor rank
  • Eligible for Texas licensure in occupational therapy
