Summary
Responsible for operating and maintaining the wastewater treatment plant by monitoring plant processes, systems, and equipment; while performing the necessary activities to meet applicable state and federal regulations.
Salary: $19.90 - $28.14/DOQ
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate wastewater treatment plant to ensure that the effluent discharged meets the permitted federal and state regulatory requirements
Make decisions on how to best maintain, repair or install equipment and process units in the Wastewater treatment system.
Operate various types of equipment necessary in the daily repair, installation and maintenance of the Wastewater treatment plant.
Perform installation of new and replacement substandard equipment items
Perform other duties associated with regulatory compliance and the day-to-day operational requirements of the wastewater treatment plants.
Minimum Qualifications
Less than 1 year work experience
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of wastewater operations
Ability to read and write English and to perform math functions
Ability to operate light to heavy equipment and machinery; wear and utilize personal protective equipment
Skills to operate a computer and various equipment
Licenses and Certifications
Must have Class C driver license
Obtain TCEQ Class D wastewater Iicense within 1 year of hire date
Obtain TCEQ Class C wastewater license within 3 years of hire date
TCEQ Class B wastewater License within 6 years of hire date
This job classification is in a Skill-based Pay program and will follow the guidelines for advancement according to the approved assessment plan.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works in an outdoor environment; frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Majority of work performed in a plant or outside with exposure to risk. Work schedule involves eight-twelve hours per day, some schedules rotating. Lifting a maximum of fifty pounds. Frequent noise, fumes, dirt, dust, hazardous industrial chemicals, and toxic situations. Position subject to emergency stand-by and 24-hour recall. Work performed both inside (40%) and outside (60%). Inside work would be divided between heated/air-conditioned office and industrial type facilities. Work location is an industrial type environment. Subject to extreme cold, fumes, chemical hazards, noise, electrical hazards, mechanical hazards, environmental hazards, situational hazards, communicable disease, and poor lighting.
