Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Reports to the Senior Manager of Industrial Projects and is responsible for planning, managing, and executing the technical aspects and scope of CAPEX projects during all phases of a project, starting with the Feasibility Study and concluding with the complete handover to operations. Supervises/coaches internal and external project resources/consultants/advisors, and the execution of the site construction. The Project Manager may be assigned a Project Engineer depending on the size and complexity of the project/assignment. The Project Manager manages all aspects of a project for all business segments of the organization with the following contributions:

  • Provide leadership to ensure all safety policies and standards are applied to be able to execute the projects with Zero Harm.
  • Provide overall communication on the status of the project through standard reporting and monthly SteerCo meetings for normal updates.
  • Provide high-quality equipment, systems, and installations to support the business needs on budget and schedule.
  • Can lead and interface with experienced engineering firms, suppliers, and contractors to obtain optimal projects in terms of design, technical concepts, and constructability that are fully capable of achieving business performance targets.
  • Plans and coordinates all project activities utilizing internal and external resources in coordination with the Group T&M team.
  • Promotes exchange of experience within the engineering teams as well as other functions

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Manage all aspects of a project through the lifecycle to deliver CAPEX projects (greenfield, brownfield, optimization, etc.) for medium and large-size projects. Prepare documents required for Project approval and authorization.
  • Provides effective and efficient project management expertise in delivering on time, within budget, and high-quality projects for all business lines.
  • Reviews and advises on the implementation of company-wide policies, guidelines, and standards, especially forsafety, permitting, project controls, procurement, engineering, construction, and start-up and commissioning.
  • Provide a variety of engineering functions in support of plant operations and optimization efforts including evaluating new equipment and technology.
  • Organizes and conducts formal project risk analysis and reports results to the Steering Committee.
  • Review all aspects of the project related to safety, security, costs, schedule, quality and performance, risks, and their mitigation with the Steering Committee.
  • Review the agenda and the project data for the Steering Committee meetings, including monthly and quarterly project progress and cost reports; participate in the Committee meetings.
  • Provide support for a smooth handover of the project to operations. Key role in preparing and executing during start-up and commissioning of Projects.
  • Under general direction, perform engineering duties supporting various disciplines including process, production/manufacturing, electrical, quality, and maintenance (reliability).
  • Develop process and material flows; general arrangement and detailed equipment layouts; equipment lists.
  • Assist and lead the procurement of new equipment through the formal bid evaluation process.
  • Shall be able to handle several projects of various magnitudes and at different stages in multiple locations.
  • Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and information exchange within the organization.
  • Contacts external expertise on specific topics when required.
  • Organizes technical support from within the overall organization.
  • Responsible for the site during construction, commissioning and start-up.
  • Preparation of the after-action review (lessons learned, etc.) report.
  • Accountable for filing and archiving all technical documents related to the project.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledgeable in most phases of plant design, process evaluation, equipment application and construction management
  • Knowledge in plant design (vertical kilns, rotary kilns, minerals facilities, terminals, ...), engineering, commissioning and operations.
  • Knowledge of engineering disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of design standards and tools specific to the mining industry.
  • Strong knowledge of process and mass flow calculations as well as design principles.
  • Knowledge of various process equipment, material handling and logistics.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding in civil, electrical and automation engineering, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge in construction.
  • Leadership and technical decision skills for industrial projects.
  • Capacity to forecast, analyze and mitigate technical risks.
  • Managerial and communication skills.
  • Reporting - accurately and timely.
  • Able to communicate in a multi-cultural environment (written and verbal).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Work shift work, seven days a week including holidays and be flexible to schedule changes.
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to high temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% as needed for projects or as directed by leadership

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or technical related field and/or equivalent work experience in the field is required.

PREFFERED EDUCATION:

  • Master's in Engineering, and/or MBA. Professional Engineering Registration (P.E.) preferred. CAPM or PMP certification is a plus CAPM or PMP certification

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-10 years of progressively responsible project management experience from feasibility through commissioning or relevant plant exposure in manufacturing, construction, mining, lime, cement, or minerals environment. Knowledge of managing a cost center budget is required.

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

  • 10-plus years of experience in project management, engineering design, and plant operations.
