Oil and Gas Lab Technician I

SUMMARY
Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment. Perform laboratory testing to determine the physical characteristics of samples designated by clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to API Standard 19C, standard operating procedures, and other industry standards.
  • Receive and log in samples.
  • Independently perform the basic testing on proppant samples such as sieve analysis, bulk density, shapes analysis, turbidity, and proper splitting of samples.
  • Operate basic laboratory equipment such as balances, ovens, and sieve shakers.
  • Clean laboratory equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Record all data and results on bench sheets with accuracy and responsibility.
  • Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ensure all safety guidelines are always followed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Minimum of 6 months of laboratory experience is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision capabilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

ProTechnics requires laboratory technicians to meet the following qualifications:
Pass the drug and alcohol test specified by ProTechnics for safety-sensitive employees.
Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea, when odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
