Job Summary

The Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research is seeking a Research Technician with excellent critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and is a good learner to join the team.

The Charles Y.C. and Jane Pak Center for Mineral Metabolism and Clinical Research (CMMCR) at UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician II in the newly opened Dr. Jialiang (Shirley) Wang laboratory. Dr. Wang's postdoctoral research was done at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical University, where her work utilized multi-omics approaches to investigate skeletal disease and bone health. She is a recipient of the NIH Pathways to Independence Award (K99/R00).

The Wang laboratory will take an interdisciplinary approach that spans genetics, multi-omics, in vivo and in vitro models, to characterize how aberrant factors can lead to skeletal disease and bone cancer. Previous and ongoing work 1) investigates the molecular program that regulates osteocytogenesis and bridges the gap between osteocyte development and human skeletal disease, and 2) reveals the regulatory role of transcription factors in bone cancer and develops novel transcription factor-targeted therapies. There are many exciting projects to work on and these projects will provide the opportunity to receive close mentorship and learn cutting-edge technologies, such as CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptome and multi-omics analysis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related fields
  • No laboratory experience is required (We will train you)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience and Education
  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required. or
  • Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent. or
  • High school graduation or GED and four (4) years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent.
Lab Duties
  • Mouse Colony Management
  • Genotyping of mice
  • Mouse tissue dissection and collection
  • Assistance for post-doctoral fellows and students in their cell culture and histological experiments
  • Laboratory housekeeping, organization, and ordering of consumables
  • Maintain lab records to ensure compliance with UT Southwestern safety programs
Job Duties
  • Performs routine scientific and medical research work in biomedical engineering, optics, and/or physics.
  • Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
  • Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
  • Assists in collection of data for project reports.
  • Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
  • May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
